ÇA VA?

"ça va?" means "How are you doing?". But the French use it in a funny way. Imagine; you ask: "how are you doing?" and they answer the same: "how are you doing?". It’s so rude and absurd, don't you think?

Well, in general the French are as formal as the English when first meeting. So what could it be? Simple. "ça va" means "how are you doing?" and "fine, thank you". How can you get which one is which? In the context.
