NAMES, TERMS AND CONCEPTS!

Now we will introduce you to a number of FrenchAssistant.com™ functions and concepts that will help you remember why you subscribed and why you wanted to learn French… (Among other things…)

Before we jump in, here are a few names, terms and concepts that will be constantly used or referred to throughout this overview and this site.

Actually, we need to start by introducting two friends of ours...

INTRODUCING: WISE MONKEY!

A very serious guy. He’s one of the official assistants of FrenchAssistant.com™. He takes learning a language very seriously. He’s a little bit boring but he knows so many things about feedback, language strategies, self-assessment and organization of your learning that you would be crazy not to listen to what he says…

You can’t do without his help!

WISE MONKEY

I find my work at FrenchAssistant.com™ very rewarding!

INTRODUCING: CRAZY MONKEY!

Totally out of control hairy helper. Impertinent, rude, quite stupid and crazy but… every so often he’s able to give excellent language learning tips.

You should listen to him all the time because he’s crazy!

CRAZY MONKEY

I can be sensible sometimes!

LANGUAGE STRATEGIES!

How do you remember the pin number of your new debit card? Sorry you already forgot the question? Studying, learning a language is actually a really complex thing to do, and science (We use a lot of science on this website) has shown us that there is a “right” and a “wrong” way to learn stuff.

Our Language strategies put you on the right track; with them you can remember the things you studied, you can also structure your study. If you want to thrive, nail tests and be laughing all the way through the lessons, take on board our language strategies!

PAYING ATTENTION?
TAKING YOU HIGHER!
FEEDBACK!

You may be exposed to many types of feedback when learning a language (Actually, you will be exposed to it during our time with us). I am not going to bore you with it right now as you are just paying to see a result but remember that corrective feedback is basically learning from your mistakes…

Actually, make no mistakes; mistakes are one of the main sources of learning… Anyway, let our Assistants do their jobs!

SELF-ASSESSMENT!

Another very useful tool. Basically, you are signing up as a student and when you complete this course, you will end up as a teacher! I know you hate teachers and you did sign up for it.

Right. Now listen: I was exaggerating a little bit; at the end of this course, you’ll still be a student. Phew! But, you will know how to learn a language! A good guidance on self-assessment gives you the tips, the tools to organise and tailor at your pace, your learning.

MAKE REAL PROGRESS!

...The best way to start your very first time with a good language method is… starting where you were told to start from!!… that is, on one of our lesson pages. Don’t worry, I am your Assistant and following the data you gave us when you registered I’ll send you to the right page for the best possible start....

...If the level you’ve been allocated is too high/low, you can simply change the class without any problem. Just go to the French Lessons menu and choose a different level....

...Everything you need! A lesson page gives you a framework in which you are going to learn some key words, key sentences and key grammatical concepts! Just read, listen to our unique dialogues and vocabulary samples, take notes on what our monkeys are telling you and then… when you feel ready… do some practise!...

...The best way to understand the command board is to go through the lesson you were allocated. Within the lesson page you will be advised and sometimes redirected towards key parts of the learning process. For example, you might need more information about a verb you came across; click on the “French Verbs” tab.

If you want to do some practise, go to “French Exercises”.

If you want to see your scoring, your improvement or what you already achieved, go to “MyLearning”. The use of the site is very friendly and easy!

CONSTANT FEEDBACK

Our Assistant gives you constant feedback on your learning and on your progress but don’t forget that we want you to give us your opinion.

So don’t hesitate to send us a lot of feedback on what you like and dislike about the site. The more you tell us, the better we can become.

Thank you!

HERE IS A GOOD TIP!

The French lessons are full of French sound samples, key French sentences, key French words and French Verbs. Remember that the more you listen and repeat, the better you will improve.

If you are in a bus, a café, a library or any public space, I know you’ll not repeat out loud each sound sample.

Here is the tip: repeat each sample for yourself, not in your head but very very quietly. Hearing yourself, will help you to master French pronunciation.
